“…As suggested by previous investigations (Beard et al, 1997(Beard et al, , 1999(Beard et al, , 2001Mayr et al, 2005aMayr et al, , 2005bHuang et al, 2009Huang et al, , 2012, the coupling between PWs and tides can also lead to tidal variability. For identifying the PW signatures, we detrended the raw time series for each month at each height by subtracting a linear background in time domain and performed a Lomb-Scargle periodogram analysis on the resultant time series.…”

“…With meteor radar observations from a high latitude southern hemispheric station, Kamalabadi et al (1997) reported modulation of the semidiurnal and diurnal tides by the Rossby modes in the period range 2-19 days as a result of nonlinear interactions. With the help of a numerical spectral model (NSM), Mayr et al (2005) demonstrated that interaction between the migrating tides and planetary waves could generate nonmigrating tides as secondary waves of comparable amplitude in the MLT. They inferred an important role of gravity waves for supplying significant energy to the primary waves during such interactions.…”

“…Tidal and general circulation models have been used to study semidiurnal nonmigrating tidal sources and morphology (Ward et al, 2005;Mayr et al, 2005;Hagan and Forbes, 2003;Grieger et al, 2002;Yamashita et al, 2002). These simulations gave an idea of the latent heat and planetary wave-tidal interaction forcing mechanisms and the spatio-temporal amplitude and phase distributions.…”
