Mesoporous silica reinforced polybutadiene rubber hybrid composite

Abstract: Polybutadiene rubber (BR) hybrid composites reinforced with mesoporous silica (MPS)/nanoclays, silica and MPS/carbon black were prepared. The primary focus of this research was to incorporate the mesoporous silicate (MPS), e.g., mobil composition of matter (MCM-41) as reinforcing filler in the BR matrix. The textural properties of the mesoporous materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy and N 2 isothermal adsorption measurements. The quantity of MCM-41 in … Show more

“…This may be due to some synergistic effect between nanofiller, sepiolite and conventional filler, carbon black [31]. The similar kind of effect has also been studied in our previous study using mesoporous silica as reinforcing filler in the poly butadiene rubber matrix in the presence of nanoclays, silica and carbon black [32].…”

“…The high porosity of the mesoporous silica allows them to host a high amount of polymer chains. Accordingly, several composites have been reported such as poly(ethylene oxide)/MCM-41, styrene butadiene rubber/MCM-41 [21]. Generally, the obtained composites present a higher elastic modulus at every evaluated temperature indicating higher polymer chain stiffness.…”

“…The large variety of polymer systems used in nanocomposites preparation with mesoporous silica can be divided into four categories. (i) vinyl polymers, for example, methyl methacrylate, 1316 other acrylates, 17 polystyrene 1820 , and poly vinyl acetate (PVAc); 21 (ii) condensation (step) polymers like epoxy polymer resins (EPR), 2226 nylon 6 (N6), 27 N66, 28 polyethylene oxide (PEO), 29,30 polybutadiene, 31 butadiene copolymers, 32,33 natural rubber, 34 silicone rubber, 35 phenolic resins, 36 polyimides, 37 and polysulfone; 38 (iii) polyolefins including polypropylene (PP) 3943 and polyethylene (PE); 44,45 and (v) specialty polymers such as polypyrrole (PPY) 46 and polyaromatics such as polyaniline (PANI). 47…”
