“…Uricchio, Calenda, and Freedman (1954) estimated that approximately 1,350 cases of mesenteric artery occlusion had been reported in the literature but they were able to find only 158 cases in which recovery followed resection. Thirty-two patients were studied by Wilson and Block (1956); 12 were subjected to resection and only two of these survived for as long as three months. In individual cases, however, extensive resection after arterial obstruction may be compatible with life and survival is possible with only 14 to 18 in.…”
