Mesenteric ischemia in the acute care setting

Abstract: Mesenteric ischemia is a group of disorders requiring prompt identifi cation, supportive care, and treatment. Chronic mesenteric ischemia can develop into acute mesenteric ischemia, which has high mortality. Acute mesenteric ischemia can be occlusive (caused by arterial embolism, arterial thrombosis, or mesenteric venous thrombosis) or nonocclusive, withtreatment depending on the underlying cause.
