“…The antioxidant properties of stem cells were described in previous studies in vitro (Whone, Kemp, Sun, Wilkins, & Scolding, ; Yalvaç et al, ) and in vivo (Li, Li, Liu, Tang, & Wei, ; Lin et al, ). In line with these data, MSCs were found to influence the spinal redox context and activate the antioxidant defense system in models of traumatic spinal cord injury (Lin et al, ) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Uccelli et al, ), as well as PTX‐induced peripheral neuropathy through restoring the total antioxidant capacity in the sciatic nerve (Al‐Massri et al, ).…”

“…Despite the scarcity of data about the role of MSCs in CIPN, its positive potential against CIPN was proven in a previous study confirming that MSCs protected sensory neurons, but not cortical neurons, from the chemotherapy‐induced neurotoxicity (Monfrini, Donzelli, Rodriguez‐Menendez, & Scuteri, ). Again, our recent study (Figure ) also showed that BM‐MSCs improved paclitaxel (PTX)–induced peripheral neuropathy in rats through inhibiting neuronal oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis as well as maintaining nerve function and promoting axonal regeneration (Al‐Massri, Ahmed, & El‐Abhar, ). The impact of MSCs on other diseases associated with peripheral neuropathy has been addressed; one experimental study concluded that MSCs transplantation alleviated the symptoms of neuropathic pain and resulted in subsequent motor recovery after spinal cord injury in rats (Yousefifard et al, ).…”
