“…We also demonstrated that the most prevalent menopausal symptoms among both urban and rural women were fatigue (68.19% vs 70.43%), vertigo (59.54% vs 68.63%), and muscle/joint pain (59.32% vs 62.84%); symptoms such as headaches (57.88% vs 61.38%), mood swings (57.42% vs 59.29%), and insomnia (57.21% vs 57.21%) were also frequently reported, which is consistent with previous reports of menopausal symptoms in Chinese women, 8,29,30 which revealed that somatic and psychological symptoms, instead of vasomotor symptoms, were the most common symptoms among Chinese menopausal women. Studies in the southwestern United States, 31 North India, 32 and Cambodia 33 also support this observation. In contrast, the most common symptoms experienced by Spanish and Peruvian urban and rural women were different.…”

“…A prospective study from the United States demonstrated that social class and psychosocial stress are important predictors of an earlier age at menopause in African American women, but did not evaluate these factors in women with POI [15]. In age-related menopause, women of lower income and educational status experience more menopausal symptoms, while another cross-sectional study found that women who are homeless or uninsured reported more severe vasomotor symptoms, depression and anxiety [16,17]. In view of the above, it was important to investigate the time to diagnosis of POI in a high risk population, such as that of our clinic, which is mostly comprised of underinsured minority women.…”

“…For example, African American women report significantly more vasomotor symptoms than Caucasian women, who experience more psychosomatic symptoms than other racial/ethnic groups [ 11 ]. A significant correlation between particularly higher psychosomatic symptoms and the lower socioeconomic status of women, regardless of age, race, menopause, and menopausal hormone therapy use is also observed [ 12 ]. Nevertheless, according to the literature, in the peri- and postmenopausal period, women develop a number of troublesome systemic symptoms, and among them, in particular, we can distinguish complaints from the oral cavity.…”
