Motivation is one of the key elements that encourage of non-native speaking students in learning the Malay language as a second language. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify motivation of remove class students who study Malay language as a second language. This study is focused on the aspect of Malay language writing essays. This research employed quantitative methodology which is a case study involving a total of 50 remove class students were chosen from a secondary school in the rural area from the district of Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan and purposive sampling method was used for this study. They are consisting of 25 Chinese students and the other 25 of Indian students. Questionnaire was used as the main instrument which consist of 13 items to collect data. Data collection was analysed using SPSS software Version 16 to collect descriptive data. The findings of this research reveals that the remove class students have high motivation level towards learning Malay language essay writing with their teacher. This proves that positive motivation can increase the level of remove class students in learning Malay language essay writing. Thus, teachers who teach Malays language must use variety of methods and techniques to motivate these students in mastering the language and their writing skills.

Students' ability in writing reviews is one of the writing skills objectives as stated in the Standard-Based Curriculum and Assessment Document (DSKP) of the Malay language subject. The skills of writing reviews involve the process of transferring information that is heard, watched, or read in a form of a review. For some students, mastering the skills of writing a review is difficult because they lack of vocabulary, ideas, information transfer skills and paragraph arrangement skills. As a result, the reviews produced by students are too short, do not fulfil the requirements of the title and are unclear in terms of the descriptions of their main and supporting ideas. However, the failure of students in mastering it can be overcome by selecting effective learning methods to stimulate students' thinking skills. To overcome this, the learning method using the mnemonic technique, a process of remembering information more easily, can be implemented. The mnemonic technique implemented in this study is an acronym technique that can help students to quickly produce an outline and write a good review. In addition, the acronym technique used can also improve the skills of finding main ideas and processing supporting ideas of reviews among students.

Linguistic errors in the Malay Language, including morphological and syntactic elements, often occur in essay writing. This study focuses on the forms of language errors identified from morphological and syntactic aspects. A qualitative approach involving document analysis (written essays), observations, and interviews was implemented with 120 secondary school students in the Kerian district of Perak. Based on Corder's Theory (1974), language errors from morphological aspects in word groups such as nouns, verbs, DM laws and noun phrases were found. Similarly, syntactic errors, including code mixing, inaccurate discourse markers, unbalanced paragraphing, compound sentence mistakes, and abbreviations, were identified. Collectively, these language errors have impacted the writing quality in the Malay Language among Form Four students. Efforts should be made to overcome these language errors to enhance writing quality. This can improve student outcomes, increase educators' awareness of common errors in essays, and uphold the dignity of the Malay language.
