Mencegah Perkembangan Populisme Islam: Analisis Wacana Kritis Terhadap Narasi Menteri Agama Tentang Radikalisme Di Indonesia

Abstract

Islamic populism has become a stronger narrative in political contestation in Indonesia in line with the rise of Islamic mass mobilization in various political momentums. This article analyzes the narration of the minister of religion, Gus Yaqut, in the Interfaith National Gathering Webinar by Polda Metro Jaya on 27 December 2020 which said that Islamic populism must be prevented from developing. This type of research is a literature study, the nature of the research is qualitative which describes critical discourse on the narrative of the minister of religion, using a critical discourse analysis approach from Norman Fairclough, this article seeks to elaborate on linguistic aspects in the context of ideology and interests, actors, and social practices that lie behind the narrative . The results of this study indicate that the discourse of Islamic populism in Gus Yaqut's narrative cannot be separated from the government's efforts to eradicate radical and intolerant groups which are also related to resistance to opposition from conservative Islamic groups. In another aspect, it was found that the narrative has a correlation with the contestation of interests between traditional Islamic groups (Nahdlatul Ulama) which tend to be close to government coalitions and Islamic groups which show an oppositional attitude.
