Membrane System-Based Models for Specifying Dynamical Population Systems

Abstract: Population Dynamics P systems (PDP systems, in short) provide a new formal bio-inspired modelling framework, which has been successfully used for modelling population dynamics on real ecosystems. The semantics of these systems is captured by the Direct distribution based on Consistent Blocks Algorithm (DCBA), which has been engineered into software simulation tools. In particular, MeCoSim (Membrane Computing Simulator) is a GUI developed in the framework of P-Lingua that can be used as a simulation environment… Show more

“…In this sense, the consistency of charges must be maintained: in order to simultaneously apply several rules from R Π j to the same membrane, all rules must have the same electrical charge on their right-hand side. For more information about the syntax of the models, refer to [9,31]. The semantics discussed in this section are the basics of the functioning of the framework.…”

“…Thus, researchers can write and debug P systems in a familiar way using modules, parameters, variables, iterators and other programming ingredients. For instance, several real ecosystem models have been written, debugged and simulated using the P-Lingua framework [9,15,31].…”

“…Although each of these (extended) computational frameworks has been used as a modeling framework for many scenarios, none of them fully integrates the dynamics and structural details of complex systems (Colomer-Cugat et al, 2014). In this concern, P systems provide the following advantages as a computational modeling framework: (a) flexibility, i.e.…”
