A rapid membrane potential change has also been observed upon interaction of mitogenic lectins with T lymphocytes (Lauf, 1978;Shapiro et al, 1979;Shapiro and Strom, 19801, chemotactic factors with polymorphonuclear leukocytes, differentiation of ova following interaction with sperm (Epel, 1978), and thrombin with platelets (Seligman et al, 1980). Since EBV is known to be a human B cell mitogen, (Tskuda et al, 1981) we think it likely that the changes in membrane potential observed upon EBV infection of RAMOS may play a role in initiating subsequent mitogenesis or viral infection.…”
