Abstract: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is becoming increasingly common and is a leading cause of end stage liver diseases such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The rise in NAFLD closely parallels the global epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and there is a clear interrelationship between abnormal lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and NAFLD progression.
