Amorphous and crystalline modifications of chlorinated polyethylenes (CPE) obtained by chlorination in solid state (40% C1 by wt.) of three types of high density polyethylenes, are considered again on the basis of topoenergetic principles. The transformations are initially induced by isochronous annealing a t 115,120,125 and 130°C and subsequently evidenced by the melting behaviour in a DTA system. By numerical iteration for the best fit of the kinetic equations the threshold tcmperature of (255 f 3) K is obtained which coincides with T , of poly(viny1idene chloride) and is in good agreement with most works on the morphology of the CPE samples with high chlorine content.
