Melody discrimination and protein fold classification

Abstract: One of the greatest challenges in theoretical biophysics and bioinformatics is the identification of protein folds from sequence data. This can be regarded as a pattern recognition problem. In this paper we report the use of a melody generation software where the inputs are derived from calculations of evolutionary information, secondary structure, flexibility, hydropathy and solvent accessibility from multiple sequence alignment data. The melodies so generated are derived from the sequence, and by inference, … Show more

“…The NMR chemical shifts are transposed to the audible spectrum following the musical concept (Figs 11 &12). 13 C NMR chemical shifts have been calculated for seven groups of amino acid's sequences based on insulin structure [figs [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Generally, 13 C NMR peaks might be occupied higher frequencies than 1 H NMR.…”

“…Converting molecular properties to sound is important for science information, therefore in the Sonification, sounds are produced from chemical properties in the bio molecular systems with the goal of facilitating data interpretation [1,2]. Sonification methods were used to DNA generating, to amino acids sequences, and to protein folding [3]. In all subjects, the mechanism of conversion has been done based on molecular properties through a suitable algorithm related to invisible phenomena with a visual inspection.…”

“…A systematic review of over 150 soni cation project highlighted the importance of pitch and spatial auditory dimensions in the auditory display [11]. Within the domain of molecular biology the properties of amino acid residue [12] and protein folding [13] have soni ed by a combination of musical talents and sound effects. More recently researchers have generated musical scores representing amino acid sequences of protein structures and note sequences from short amino acid sequences [14].…”
