Medium Resolution Transmission Measurements of Water Vapor at High Temperature

Abstract: Medium-resolution transmissivities of water vapor were measured at temperatures between 600 and 1550 K for all-important vibration-rotation bands as well as part of the purely rotational band. Measurements were made with an improved drop tube design, which ensures a relatively isothermal high-temperature gas column. Data were collected with a Fourier-transform-infrared-spectrometer, allowing for much better spectral resolution than most previous high-temperature measurements. The measured data were compared to… Show more

“…A NB database of k-distributions for carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water vapour can be generated [5-7, 9, 10] from HITEMP [12] and CDSD-1000 [13] spectroscopic databases, which were found to provide a good description of the line data over the range of temperatures encountered in combustion applications [14][15][16]. In order to apply this database to pool fire simulations it should be extended by adding k-distributions of fuels.…”

“…HITEMP 2010 [53] is limited to only 5 species (CO 2 , H 2 O, CO, NO and OH), but contains data for "hot lines," which become active at high temperature. The database was extensively tested against measured medium-to high-resolution FTIR spectra of CO 2 [56,57,58], H 2 O [59,60], and CO [61] at relevant combustion conditions, and can be used to fulfill this task.…”

“…The absorption coefficients, which are required to calculate transmissivity, were determined from HITEMP 2010, the high-temperature molecular spectroscopic database [52]. The database has been extensively tested against measured FTIR spectra of CO 2 [53][54][55] and H 2 O [56,57]. Good agreement between measured and calculated spectra was found.…”
