Medium modifications of theρmeson in nuclear photoproduction

Abstract: We extend our recent study of dilepton invariant-mass spectra from the decays of ρ mesons produced by photon reactions off nuclei. We specifically focus on experimental spectra as recently measured by the CLAS Collaboration at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility using carbon and iron nuclei. Building on our earlier work, we broaden our description to a larger set of observables to identify sensitivities to the medium effects predicted by microscopic calculations of the ρ spectral function. We co… Show more

“…In the QGP, HQ interactions with surrounding quarks, anti-quarks and gluons are evaluated using in-medium Tmatrices [35,37], which are obtained in different partialwave (l = S, P ) and color channels (e.g., a = 1, 8 for Qq) from a Lippmann-Schwinger equation…”

“…Specifically, we calculate the R AA and elliptic flow (v 2 ) of HF electrons and compare the results to recent PHENIX and STAR data. Since our nonperturbative HF diffusion approach is characterized by a maximal interaction strength in the pseudo-critical region [35,36], its application at lower energies can help to test the validity of this behavior.…”

“…For the HQ friction coefficient, we extend previous T -matrix calculations carried out for the free and internal energies as potential proxies [4,13,25]. In particular, due to the large widths in the SCS we account for off-shell effects based on the formalism described in Ref.…”

“…The description of quarkonia states in a hot QGP medium in the vicinity of the critical temperature should therefore treat bound and scattering states on an equal footing. This is appropriately achieved within a thermodynamical Tmatrix approach, which has been developed to address the spectral properties of quarkonia [23] as well as open flavor meson states [24,25,26]. It is also worth noting that inelastic collisions are responsible for absorption of J/ψ in a hadron gas of light π and ρ mesons since the corresponding cross sections can be sufficienly large [21,27,28,29,30].…”
