Medieval concerns for soul salvation testamentary bequests to the Franciscan order in Kotor (Cattaro) 1326-1337

Abstract: Analysis of the testamentary bequests that Kotor citizens made to the Fran­ciscans ad pias causas between 1326 and 1337 shows that the most common type was that of pecuniary bequests for saying masses pro remedio animae. The Franciscan played a prominent role in the shaping of devotional practices of the faithful and acted as their closest helpers through performing commemorative rites for the salva­tion of the soul after death.
