Abstract: First-Line Treatments (Table 8.1) CarbamazepineCarbamazepine was initially shown to be more effective than a placebo for treating trigeminal neuralgia in a randomized placebo-controlled trial published in 1966 [1]. At that time, doses from 100 mg three times per day to 200 mg four times per day were used.
