Medication-induced Uveitis: An Update

Abstract: Drug-induced uveitis is an uncommon but important cause of ocular inflammation. Uveitis can be seen in association with various systemic, topical, and intraocular medications. In this article, we review common medications associated with uveitis. Most cases of drug-induced uveitis resolve with termination of the suspected medication with or without administration of topical or systemic steroids. It is important for clinicians to readily identify medications that may cause uveitis in order to provide rapid trea… Show more

“…[ 60 ] Although effective in treating rheumatologic conditions, it is not commonly used for uveitis as it is not as efficacious in comparison to other anti-TNF-a agents, [ 60 ] and there is risk for drug-induced uveitis and sarcoidosis. [ 61 , 62 ]…”

“…[ 70 , 71 , 72 ] It has been studied in uveitis associated with BD and noninfectious scleritis. [ 62 ][ 63 , 64 ][ 73 ] Although rapid control of BD-related uveitis was noted in the pilot and phase-2 studies, [ 70 , 71 ] the phase-3 EYEGUARD-B trial failed to meet its primary endpoint and the medicine did not significantly alter the risk of flares.
