Medical gloves modified by a one-minute spraying process with blood-repellent, antibacterial and wound-healing abilities

Abstract: A kind of blood-repellent mist spray (MS) was proposed to prevent blood adhesion during surgery and played an important role in antibacterial and wound-healing, which could be widely used in the surface modification of various medical gloves.

“…Zhuo et al. [ 125 ] proposed superhydrophobic blood‐repellent mist spray coating that could be sprayed on the surface of ordinary medical gloves to obtain blood‐repellent gloves. As shown in Figure 8c, blood adhesion can appear on the surface of ordinary gloves when operating.…”

“…In addition to improving the anti‐thrombotic properties of medical instruments (catheters, blood bags), extracorporeal medical protective equipment, such as surgical gloves and gowns, also need blood‐repellent properties. [ 56,125 ] Given bleeding during an operation is almost inevitable, gloves become sticky after being in contact with blood, which reduces the quality and may increase the difficulty of the operation. Additionally, sticky blood or body fluids transfer micro‐organisms between surgeon and patients.…”

“…Recently, the hemocompatibility of superhydrophobic materials or coatings has been brought to attention because they can significantly reduce the contact area of blood with the material and reduce the adhesion force, enhancing blood compatibility by reducing the available binding sites for protein adsorption or platelet adhesion. 25,26 Meanwhile, the antifouling properties of the superhydrophobic surface also prevent the infection of surgical devices by reducing the adhesion of bacteria and other organic substances. 27,28 Additionally, a superhydrophobic coating can prevent corrosion by not allowing the metal surface to come in contact with corrosive media.…”

“…Due to the nonwetting behavior of superhydrophobic surfaces, many methods have been used to prepare the superhydrophobic surface to resist bacterial adhesion and blood contamination, such as spraying, thermal oxidation, deposition, hydrothermal method, and so on. The fact is each preparation method has its advantages around different research objectives (such as controlling material morphology, hydrophilicity, adhesion, stability, etc. ). , For example, Zhang prepared a novel superhydrophobic surface with a hierarchical architecture and bimetallic composition by a facile galvanic replacement reaction, followed by a simple thermal oxidation process, which showed excellent antibacterial activity under various working conditions.…”
