This study highlights the critical importance of understanding the impact of epigenetic risk factors on COVID-19 among women of fertile age. Purpose - to characterize the epigenetic factors of COVID-19 in women of childbearing age, residents of Kyiv city who have had coronavirus infection, identified as a result of clinical and epidemiological studies. Materials and methods. This research investigates the potential epigenetic risk factors for COVID-19 onset and progression in women of childbearing age in the Kyiv city. An original, comprehensive questionnaire designed to capture a wide range of health and socio-biological risk factors was disseminated among 100 women. Follow-up examinations and interviews were conducted with 97 of these women. Results. The study revealed that a notable proportion of the surveyed women experienced adverse working conditions. 12.4% reported infrequent exposure to chemically harmful environments. About 12.4% indicated consistent and 10.3% intermittent work-related nervous strain. Furthermore, 15.5% of the respondents identified infrequent physical hazards at their workplace, while 19.6% experienced occupational harm. Among male partners, 4.1% frequent and 4.1% occasionally had contact with harmful vapours or chemicals at work. Epigenetic risk factors were determined using a clinical genealogical map. Occupational harm was absent before and after COVID-19 infection in 35.0% and 33.0% of women, respectively. Regarding harmful habits, 9.3% and 2.1% of women engaged in tobacco smoking before and after COVID-19 infection, respectively, whereas 9.3% and 36.8% did not consumed alcohol. Past illnesses, such as rubella and allergy, were identified as potential epigenetic factors in 3.1% and 11.3% of women. Conclusions. It was established that among the identified epigenetic risk factors that can directly or indirectly affect the spread of coronavirus infection in women, residents of the city of Kyiv, the following require special attention of the doctor: presence of contact with physical and chemical agents, transferred diseases and conditions (rubella in 3.1 % of women), allergy (in 11.3% and 13.4% of women before and after the disease). The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. The study protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of the participating institution. The informed consent of the patient was obtained for conducting the studies. No conflict of interests was declared by the authors.

This study explores the psycho-emotional stress and related intestinal symptoms among women of fertile age who underwent an artificial abortion, utilizing a well-defined point-based questionnaire for stress levels and the revised version of the questionnaire for healthcare professionals to evaluate intestinal symptoms. The cohort consisted of 400 participants, with stress levels categorized as low (0–30 points), medium (31–70 points), or high (71+ points) according to the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS). Further, perceived helplessness and perceived self-efficacy were evaluated via negative and positive PSS items, respectively. Findings indicated that most (65.5 %) women experienced high, and 27.5 % — medium stress before an abortion. Notably, pre-abortion stress levels were generally higher compared to those after an abortion. Concurrently, the frequency of bowel symptoms declined after an abortion. A significant relationship was found between pre-abortion bowel symptoms and higher post-abortion PSS scores, and an increase in the perceived helplessness subgroup (p = 0.051, R2 = 0.156; p = 0.029, R2 = 0.138, respectively). Furthermore, higher perceived helplessness scores were linked with increased pre-abortion intestinal symptoms (p = 0.043, R2 = 0.341). The study, however, found no significant correlations between bowel symptoms and the perceived self-efficacy subgroup. These results suggest an association between pre-abortion psychological factors (lower self-efficacy and higher stress levels) and the incidence of intestinal symptoms, thus shedding light on the intersection of psychological and physical well-being in reproductive health contexts. Further research is needed to explore these mechanisms and develop effective support strategies.

Refugees around the world face numerous challenges when it comes to accessing healthcare services, particularly in the area of reproductive health. This narrative review aims to explore the barriers that refugees encounter when trying to access healthcare systems in their host countries. These barriers include language and cultural differences, lack of knowledge about the healthcare system, limited access to transportation, financial constraints, and stigma. Comprehensive healthcare services, including healthcare access, nutrition, and mental health support, are crucial to prevent and manage chronic diseases and improve health outcomes for refugees, particularly those with diabetes who may face restricted availability of medications and monitoring devices. It is essential to ensure refugees diagnosed with diabetes have sufficient access to insulin supplies and equipment to administer it securely. We also highlight the impact of these barriers on the reproductive health of refugees, including inadequate prenatal care, lack of access to contraception and family planning services, and increased risk of sexually transmitted infections. The findings of this review underscore the urgent need for policymakers and healthcare providers to address the unique challenges that refugees face when accessing reproductive healthcare. Efforts must be made to improve access to information, increase cultural competency among healthcare providers, and address financial and transportation barriers. By addressing these challenges, we can ensure that refugees have the necessary support and resources to maintain their reproductive health and well-being.
