“…Theoretically, telecanthus observed in NOE fractures is a possible complication due to the deviation of the frontal process of the maxillary bone. However, telecanthus was not noted in any of the medial maxillary (nasomaxillary buttress) fractures reported by May et al, [ 1 ] Yoshioka et al, [ 2 ] Anderson et al, [ 4 ] and Hillstrom et al, [ 5 ] or in the patients described in this report. May et al [ 1 ] and Hillstrom et al [ 5 ] suggested that the difference in the fracture pattern between NOE and medial maxillary (nasomaxillary buttress) fractures is due to the difference in the direction of the external force.…”

“…Facial fracture sites have been reported to be accessed through a circular incision, which is found in coronal, intraoral, eyebrow, and subcilial incisions, and transconjunctival approaches. 5 , 6 , 9 In the authors’ case, because the orbital rim needed to be fixed, transconjunctival and intraoral approaches were selected. A transconjunctival incision allows surgeons not only to access the fracture site but also to minimize scarring.…”

“…FFPM alone are poorly described in the literature; they are often mentioned along with an adjacent fracture site, such as the nasal bone or other facial bone. 14,15 Hillstrom et al 14 introduced the concept of medial maxillary fractures in 1991 and defined the upper border of the fracture within the FPM. Yoshioka et al 15 recently revisited this idea and proposed that medial maxillary fractures are a particular type of nasomaxillary buttress fracture associated with the FPM and other surrounding structures.…”
