Media‐based single‐symbol generalized spatial modulation

Abstract: Summary Single‐symbol generalized spatial modulation (GSM) improves upon the limitation of spatial modulation (SM) by reducing the number of required transmit antennas to achieve high data rates. In this paper, we investigate the application of media‐based modulation (MBM) based on radio frequency mirrors to single‐symbol GSM, with the aim of improving error performance. The theoretical average bit error probability of the proposed scheme is derived, employing a lower bound approach and used to validate the Mo… Show more

“…In recent years, mainly detection performance of IM‐based systems is investigated in 14–24 rather than realistic channel estimation performance. In Shamasundar and Chockalingam, 14 multiuser MBM performance in a massive MIMO setting is investigated through compressed sensing (CS)‐based algorithms.…”

“…However, this work is further developed including SM concept in Yigit and Basar 18 by presenting the corresponding error probability. The system performance of MBM with generalized SM is investigated in Naresh and Chockalingam 19 and Oladoyinbo et al 20 However, the authors extend their work on performance analysis considering the maximum likelihood (ML) detectors under imperfect channel state information (I‐CSI) assumption in Naresh and Chockalingam 21 . In Shamasundar et al, 22 MBM for the uplink massive MIMO systems is focused where CS‐based detection algorithms are applied.…”

“…Therefore, researches recently proposes new technologies that enhance or even flips the traditional way of implementing communication systems. As an example, exploiting other dimensions such as spatial domain [6][7][8][9][10]. Since the application of OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) technique, wireless transceivers perform much better than traditional transceiver systems because of multicarrier over single carrier advances.…”

“…The constellation design for this system with an arbitrary number of antenna groups is investigated in Reference [ 38 ]. To increase the spectral efficiency, an antenna grouping combined with QSM was recently proposed in Reference [ 39 , 40 ]. In the sequel, the systems in Reference [ 35 , 36 , 39 , 40 ] are referred to as parallel SM (PSM) and parallel QSM (PQSM), respectively.…”
