Mechanism of tonifying-kidney Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of chronic heart failure

Abstract: According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), chronic heart failure has the basic pathological characteristics of “heart-kidney yang deficiency.” Chronic heart failure with heart- and kidney-Yang deficiency has good overlap with New York Heart Association (NYHA) classes III and IV. Traditional Chinese medicine classical prescriptions for the treatment of chronic heart failure often take “warming and tonifying kidney-Yang” as the core, supplemented by herbal compositions with functions of “promoting blood ci… Show more

“…It is also mentioned that Inflammation can be induced by several reprogramming of cellular energy production which may play a vital role in biosynthesis to ensure faster ATP production, and this may damage repair by increasing glycolysis and promoting mitochondrial dysfunction and cause cell damage in cardiac tissue. However, in chinse leaf, it has been proved that there are lots of verity of chemical composition present which can block the target substance 45. Side effects of DOX may cause serious damage in the left and right ventricles, as confirmed by the significant reduction in NO content, which plays a vital role in vascular function.…”

“…Traditional Chinese medicine has demonstrated therapeutic benefits for CHF in clinical settings. Various Chinese medicinal compounds have been shown to alleviate heart failure symptoms by enhancing myocardial metabolism, promoting angiogenesis and cardiac repair, inhibiting inflammation, and modulating activation of neurohumoral pathways 11 13 . Panax ginseng is a quintessential medicinal herb in TCM, characterized predominantly by its bioactive constituents, which are natural saponin compounds.…”

“…This prescription is used for treating angina pectoris, exerting positive effects on symptom relief, blood lipid metabolism, and quality of life[ 13 ]. TCM classifies CHF complicated with depression in the categories of chest obstruction and stagnation syndrome, which mainly manifests as blood stasis syndrome, with etiology associated with blood stasis obstruction of the heart pulse, stagnation of qi activity, and prolonged qi stagnation[ 14 , 15 ]. Therefore, CHF treatment is based on the principle of activating blood, dissolving stasis, regulating qi, and relieving depression, with XFZYD being the best choice.…”
