A range of ligand-bridged homometallic (Ru−Ru) and heterometallic (Ru−Os) dinuclear complexes have been synthesized by the stereoselective coupling of individual performed mononuclear complexes through norbornene and epoxide functionalities attached to 1,10-phenanthroline ligating groups. The spatial orientations of the coupled chromophores were varied by control of the composition of the alicylic bridge between the two metal centers.
