Mechanism of Action of L-arginine on the Vitality of Spermatozoa is Primarily Through Increased Biosynthesis of Nitric Oxide

Abstract: The ability of sperm to fertilize the egg is primarily dependent on sperm motility and membrane integrity. Nitric oxide (NO) plays a decisive role in regulating multiple functions within the male reproductive system. The aim of the present study is to determine the mechanism by which L-arginine confers a protective action on spermatozoa obtained from the goat epididymis. NO is synthesized from L-arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide-synthase (NOS) present in spermatozoa. A possible participation of NO and NOS in… Show more

“…In addition, because the dose of L-Arginine given in the medium of capacitance is to balance the occurrence of lipid peroxidation or free radicals. L-Arginine is an amino acid that can stimulate the motility of mammalian spermatozoa under in vitro conditions and play an important role in the defense of cellular immunity 19 . L -Arginin protects spermatozoa against lipid peroxidation by increasing the production of nitric oxide and deactivating free radicals.…”

“…L-Arginin is amino acid which can stimulated sperm motility in the in vitro condition.and also have role in celluler imunity defens [8]. L-Arginin such protect spermatozoa against lipid peroxidation through increased production of nitric oxide used againt reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and anion superoxide (O 2 ) [9].…”
