Mechanism Enhancing the Emission Power of Gas-Discharge Lamps Based on Mixtures of Neon, Nitrogen, and Mercury Dichloride Vapor in the Blue-Green Spectral Interval

Abstract: A mechanism enhancing the radiation power of a gas-discharge lamp based on a mixture of neon, nitrogen, and a mercury dichloride vapor in the blue-green spectral interval as compared with that for a lamp based on a mixture of only neon and a mercury dichloride vapor has been determined. The optical characteristics and the plasma parameters, as well as the value of the reduced electric field, at which the specific discharge power introduced into the excitation of exciplex molecules of mercury monochloride is ma… Show more

“…The partial pressure of helium was measured using a standard membrane pressure gauge. The spectral, integral, and temporal characteristics of the exciplex source were studied with the help of a registration system described in work [12]. Figure 2 demonstrates a surveillance spectrum of radiation emitted by an exciplex source operating on the mixture of cadmium diiodide vapor and helium.…”

“…The electric field strength and the reduced electric field strength / in plasma at which the observed radiation power in the spectral band of the cadmium monoiodide molecule (with max = 650 nm) was maximum were found to equal 2.0×10 6 V/m and 55.9 Td, respectively. They were determined using the method described in our work [12].…”

“…= 650 nm) of the cadmium monoiodide molecule was observed in the experiment in a mixture of cadmium diiodide vapor and neon and a mixture of cadmium diiodide vapor, neon and a small addition of xenon were 1.8 • 10 6 V/m, 148.9 Td and 144.0 Td, respectively. They were determined by the method described by us in the article [21]. The specific losses of the discharge power due to dissociative excitation by electrons of the B 2 Σ 1/2 + − state of cadmium monoiodide molecules for a mixture of cadmium diiodide vapor with neon (Fig.…”
