Mechanism and Regulation of Silique Dehiscence, Which Affects Oil Seed Production

Abstract: Silique dehiscence is an important physiological process during natural growth that enables mature seeds to be released from plants, which then undergo reproduction and ensure the survival of future generations. In agricultural production, the time and degree of silique dehiscence affect the harvest time and processing of crops. Premature silique dehiscence leads to seeds being shed before harvest, resulting in substantial reductions to yields. Conversely, late silique dehiscence is not conducive to harvesting… Show more

“…Nonetheless, only TFs have been reported as regulators for the establishment of the lignification pattern. However, in similar abscission processes occurring in the floral organ abscission zone (reviewed by Niederhuth et al ., 2013) or silique dehiscence zone (reviewed by Yu et al ., 2020), several intervenients besides TFs have been reported: hormones (like ethylene, auxin, jasmonic acid), small peptides and their receptors (INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION is perceived by HAESA or HAESA-LIKE 1), as well as cell wall modifying enzymes (cellulases, hemicellulases and pectinases).…”

“…Fruit dehiscence is a critical process for seed dispersal affecting the completion of the propagation cycle of many plant species, and is tightly associated with yield losses in agriculture. Preharvest fruit dehiscence causes seeds to be shed before or during harvest, bringing substantial yield losses [ 1 , 2 ]. Conversely, delayed dehiscence is not conducive to harvesting, and the accumulation of dry matter or desired components will be reduced or changed due to the respiration of seeds [ 2 ].…”

Conversely, delayed dehiscence is not conducive to harvesting, and the accumulation of dry matter or desired components will be reduced or changed due to the respiration of seeds [ 2 ]. The dehiscing process of fruit has been well studied in plants of legumes and crucifers, such as soybean, Arabidopsis thaliana ( A. thaliana ), and Brassica napus ( B. napus ) [ 1 , 3 ].…”
