“…Unlike silica aerogels and conventional organic aerogels, polyimide aerogel has excellent mechanical properties (flexibility and pressure resistance), 11,12 good flame retardant properties 13 and thermal decomposition temperature ( T d ). 14,15 The excellent mechanical properties and thermal stability are mainly due to the highly rigid aromatic structure and conjugation effects of aromatic ring structures of the imide chain. 16–18 In general, polyimide aerogels are firstly dehydrated at room temperature by chemically aromatic diamides and aromatic diamines in polar solvents (such as N , N -dimethyl-formamide (DMF), N , N -dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N -methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)) to form polyamide acid (PAA).…”

“…The deconvoluted C 1s spectrum for PSf/PDMS can be fitted to only one main peak at 285 eV, correlating to the C−Si bonding and a weak peak at 287 eV for the C−O bonding from residues (Figure 2B), while clear C−C, C−N, CO and −CF 3 peaks at 284.5, 286.3, 288.5, and 292.6 eV, respectively, are detected after incorporating PI selective layers at the surface of the PSf/ PDMS support (Figure 2C). The N 1s spectrum of the TFC membrane containing the PI selective layer can be fitted to three peaks at 399.5, 400.1, and 401.1 eV, corresponding to the −CONH−, C−N−C, and N(C 2 H 5 ), 35,36 respectively, which further reveal the formation of cross-linked PI layers. The chemical makeup of cross-linked PI layer was further probed by combining 13 C-NMR and FTIR spectroscopies.…”

“…24–29 A series of PI aerogels has been prepared using different combinations of diamines, dianhydrides and crosslinking agents. 30–34 However, the solvents used in their preparation were all high boiling organic solvents including N -methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N , N -dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N , N -dimethylformamide, which can cause environmental pollution. Meanwhile, water is a cheap, easily obtained and safe solvent.…”
