“…Bone graft therapy is currently the most common clinical treatment. 1 However, there are several factors that limit the use of this clinical therapy, including bone-related disorders and limited donor supplies. 2 Recently, tissue engineering has become a promising approach for large bone defects regeneration.…”

“…As the main load-bearing bone of lower limb, the reconstruction of bone defect needs to consider the length of bone defect, the thickness of bone and the duration of disease [1] . Generally, segmental bone defects could be managed by several methods, such as Illizarov technique, induced membrane technique and bone graft [2] . Illizarov technique, which needs a long treatment course, has been criticized for related soft tissue and neurovascular complications.…”

“…Compared with the lower limbs, the upper limbs require more function than weight-bearing. Most studies about applying the Ilizarov technique in the treatment of bone defects were focused on the lower extremity [12][13][14][20][21][22][23][24], while there were few published data reported in the upper extremity due to the complexity of the bone transport procedure and for fear of functional loss [2,3,[25][26][27][28]. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Ilizarov segmental bone transport technique in the treatment of diaphyseal forearm bone defects caused by infection.…”
