“…These excellent properties make Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 eutectic ceramics potential for a wide range of applications. Generally, eutectic ceramics were mostly prepared by Bridgman method 3 , laser heated floating zone method 4,5 , micro pulling down method 6,7 , combustion synthesis method 8,9 , thermal explosion spraying [10][11][12] and so on. When the growth rate v = 24 mm/h, the hardness and fracture toughness of the solidified Al 2 O 3 /EAG ceramic reach the maximum values of 21.57 GPa and 2.98 MPa·m 1/2 respectively, which are higher than those reported by Özerdem [27] or Mesa [19].
