Mechanical properties of PBT/ABAS blends

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The mechanical properties such as tensile behavior and impact strength of melt mixed poly(butylene terephthlate) (PBT)/acrylonitrile-butylacrylate-styrene (ABAS) terpolymer blends at ABAS contents up to 39 vol % were evaluated. Tensile properties decreased while impact strength was enhanced by the blending polymer. Morphological studies show good dispersion of ABAS into the PBT matrix. The strength properties were dependent on the crystallinity of PBT and interphase adhesion between the phases. The im… Show more

“…The presence of two peaks in the blends confirms the immiscibility between the phases. However, there are only one transition temperature was observed for PBT/SEBS-G-MAH blend in the test temperature range [2,8,9,24]. The results confirm that there are well miscibility between PBT and SEBS-G-MAH and immiscibility between PBT and SEBS.…”

“…Poly (butylene terephthlate) (PBT) is an important engineering thermoplastic with many valuable properties [8][9][10][11]. These characteristics make it very useful for manufacturing injection-molded articles for domestic, electrical, and automotive applications where the above mentioned characteristics are required [12].…”

“…22,23 This has been attributed to the interference of the dispersed phase to the matrix's polymer chain mobility through imposition of physical barrier. However, incorporation of EVA copolymer into i-PP enhanced the crystallinity of the latter, and the crystallinity increases with the concentration of EVA copolymer as shown by the DSC measurements given in Table I.…”

“…Poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) sees wide application in such industries as automobile, electrical and electronics, and limited application for its poor low-temperature impact toughness and big notch sensitivity at room temperature [1][2][3][4] . These days, rubber (elastomer) and inorganic fibers are added together into the polymer to form the three-phase compound system, with a view to gain the high-performance low-cost compound material with the increased strength and toughness.…”
