Mechanical Properties of Knock-down Joints in Honeycomb Panels

Abstract: This study focuses on the use of demountable furniture joints in combination with 38-mm-thick honeycomb panels. These fittings were incorporated into L-shaped corner joints and then tested to determine their bending moment capacity. Overall, seven combinations of demountable fittings were tested. These groups of connectors consisted of solution non-glued, partly-glued connectors, and fully-glued connectors. All of the connectors were positioned in the test samples as they are commonly located in furniture cons… Show more

“…The problematic parts of applying paper honeycomb panels as structural elements are the joints [ 11 ]. For this reason, there is a growing industrial and academic interest on the investigation and optimization of these types of joints [ 16 , 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ]. Some of the authors studied the bending strength of the joints [ 36 , 38 , 39 ], but tensile and shear tests were applied, as well [ 15 , 34 , 35 , 38 , 39 ].…”

“…This tendency is proportional to the number of used fasteners [10,[33][34][35][36][37]; • Influence of distribution of fasteners. For instance, for double dowel joint the most effective dowel distribution equals 96 mm [38][39][40][41][42]; • Influence of fastener/joint geometry on joint stiffness. The increase in fastener length and diameter results in joint strength improvement, although increasing length is more effective [6,36,43,44].…”
