“…Stress is built up at the point of the angle until it is sufficient to initiate a tear and then further stresses propagate this tear. Tear behavior and tear surfaces showed the variation of resistance to tear of each material 21) . Weak material such as RS had a smooth tear surface, which correlated with the findings of Moore et al 6) and Wolfaardt et al 21) .…”

“…Tear behavior and tear surfaces showed the variation of resistance to tear of each material 21) . Weak material such as RS had a smooth tear surface, which correlated with the findings of Moore et al 6) and Wolfaardt et al 21) . The experimental materials with a large amount of reinforcing fillers had a different tear pattern.…”

“…3 Although there are many materials available for the fabrication of a facial prosthesis, none fulfills all the requirements for a satisfactory prosthesis. 1 Discoloration and loss of mechanical and physical properties occur over time.…”

“…Most degradation occurs at the margins. [1][2][3][4][5] The margins are particularly susceptible to degradation because of poor tear resistance. As a result of the use of colorants, adhesives, cosmetic agents, solvents, and cleaners that are applied to the prosthesis, marginal breakdown occurs.…”
