The self-condensation reaction of an anionic completely condensed polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (POSS) in the presence of different Eu 3 + loadings generated an amorphous polysilsequioxane. The synthesis involves self-condensation of POSS units and Eu 3 + ions and can be carried out at room temperature in a mild acid solution (pH 5.5), followed by simple solvent evaporation under gentle conditions (80°C). The materials exhibit good chemical integrity, appreciable luminescent properties, and their emission intensity increases by ca. 250 times after inclusion of 1,10-phenanthroline groups in the structure. Furthermore, the final materials showed a very limited photodegradation of ca. 3 % after 1 h of light irradiation. These properties make these samples suitable for applications as sensors and light-emitting components for luminescent devices.

The present work reports the effect of various organically functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) particles on the gas transport properties (N 2 , O 2 , and CO 2 molecules) in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membranes. The incorporation of polyethylene glycol-POSS (PEG-POSS), octa-tetramethylammonium-POSS (Octa-TMA-POSS) and m-POSS (Octa-TMA-POSS molecule was modified using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide) led to the enhancement in CO 2 separation performance of PVA, among which, PEG-POSS exhibited highest CO 2 separation due to the dipole-quadrupolar interaction of CO 2 with ethylene oxide group in POSS. Octa-TMA-POSS and m-POSS reduced the O 2 and N 2 permeability of the PVA membrane due to the reduction in the number of permeating pathways as compared to pure PVA. Free volume of the membranes was evaluated by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopic (PALS) and coincidence Doppler broadening measurements. PALS confirms the increase in polymer free volume in PVA/POSS system due to the presence of rigid and spherical POSS molecule, which could enter in the polymer chain and provide viable pathway for molecular transport. Maxwel-Wagner-Sillar and Higuchi models were applied for the theoretical prediction of permeability of the fabricated membranes.

In the present work, PdRu@mSiO2 bimetallic core‐shell nanoreactors (NRs) are synthesized for the first time by a fine‐tuning one‐pot method. The obtained NRs are evaluated in the reduction of nitroarenes using 4‐nitrophenol (4‐NP), 1‐chloro‐4‐nitrobenzene (1‐Cl‐4‐NB), 4‐nitrotoluene (4‐NT) and 2,4‐dinitrophenol (2,4‐DNP) as reagents. The mesoporous PdRu@mSiO2 NRs with a Pd1:Ru1 molar ratio present a homogenous spherical morphology with a single nucleus per capsule. Various techniques confirm the formation of Pd‐Ru alloy. The bimetallic NRs show higher catalytic activity and stability compared with the reference catalysts (free and supported nanoparticles (NPs)) and with those reported in the literature. The order of catalytic activity for studied nitroarene compounds is 4‐NP>1‐Cl‐4‐NB>2,4‐DNP>4‐NT. The catalytic activity of NRs is affected by inter and intramolecular interactions between the reagent molecules. The one‐pot method of NRs synthesis is low‐cost and effective, with possible application in the catalytic reduction of various hazardous materials.
