Mechanical, Physical and Thermal Behaviour of SiC and MgO Reinforced Aluminium Based Composite Material

Durability in terms of life is intended as a significant factor in developing advanced materials. The enrichment in corrosion resistance of the produced progressive material can be the solution. In the current study, a nanocomposite of aluminum 6061 and cerium oxide was prepared with a stir casting route reinforced in the range of 1-3 wt.%. The corrosion and microstructural behavior were observed under parametric conditions. The exposure time (36-180 hours), temperatures (room temperature, 45 ºC, and 75 ºC), and 2.5 wt.% of Sodium chloride (NaCl) and Sulphuric acid (H2So4) solutions were chosen as parameters for examining the corrosion rate using the immersion test method. The lower corrosion resistance was noticed in aluminum metal matrix nanocomposites (AlMMNCs) reinforced with 3 wt.% of CeO2. The SEM analysis concluded voids, holes, clustering of particles, and debris kind of defects were observed in stir casting of AlMMNCs samples. The Pitting, fretting, and grain boundary corrosions were the primary degradation factors for corrosion behavior as evaluated from microstructural characteristics. The 0.116 has been observed as a significant corrosion rate in mm potential per year after 180 hours as exposure time at 75ºC in 2.5 wt.% NaCl solution.

The Tensile Properties of Recycled Polypropylene Filament (rPP) as 3D Printing Material

Thermoplastic plastic waste, which comprises a significant portion of all plastic waste, has the potential to be repurposed through 3D printing techniques. Among the various types of plastic contributing to the plastic waste issue, Polypropylene (PP) plastic, commonly found in food packaging, is a major contributor. While recycling PP plastic poses certain challenges, it also presents a promising avenue for addressing the plastic waste problem. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical properties of 3D printed specimens fabricated from recycled Polypropylene (rPP) filament derived from post-consumer instant noodle packaging waste. The process involved shredding and extruding the packaging material into rPP filament, which was subsequently utilized to print dogbone samples in an FDM 3D printer at nozzle temperatures of 180°C, 190°C, 200°C, 210°C, and 220°C. In addition to others fabricated from commercial Polypropylene (PP) and Polylactic Acid (PLA) filaments, these samples were subjected to tensile testing to determine their ultimate tensile strength and Young's modulus. The results indicate that rPP filament printed at 210°C exhibited the highest average values for ultimate tensile strength and Young's modulus at 20.73 MPa and 806.35 MPa, respectively. These values were comparable to those of the commercial PP filament, though lower than those of the commercial PLA filament, which were nearly twice as high as the PP values. However, an increase in extrusion temperature was accompanied by an increase in the deviation of the testing results, suggesting that higher temperatures may result in an increased amorphous fraction in the rPP.

Effect of Casting Parameters on Tensile Strength of Chrome Containing Leather Waste Reinforced Aluminium Based Composite using RSM

The pollution of leather industry contains a wide variety of toxic substance. Many diseases are spread by these viruses, which enter the body through the mouth and nose. Leather industry waste that contains chrome is another sort of trash. Chrome Containing Leather Waste (CCLW) also generates various types of pollution. The study's response parameters are surface quality and energy consumption, while the machining parameters are cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut. The ideal set of machining settings, including those for minimal surface roughness and minimum energy consumption, have been determined using the response surface methodology (RSM). CCLW is used as primary reinforcement while for secondary reinforcement particle alumina has been utilized. Stir casting parameters were optimized using Response surface methodology (RSM), collagen was preheated at temperature 177.36°C, weight percent of collagen 1.43, stirring duration of stir casting is 180 s, alumina preheat temperature of 300°C and alumina weight percent of 5 has been determined to be best amalgamation of casting parameters. At optimal combination of characteristics, tensile strength of prepared composite was determined to be 162.45 MPa, composite tensile strength was increased by around 20.33 %.
