Mechanical characterization of sol-gel alumina-based ceramics with intragranular reinforcement of multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Abstract: Highlights • Crack-bridging as toughening phenomena revealed by SEM. • Nanoindentation hardness and elastic modulus shows an increasing behavior with CNTs concentration. • Actual elastic modulus for the calculation of fracture toughness of the composites reveals significant fracture improvement. • Sintering parameters have to be tuned for fully dense composite.

“…Also, PCA and maximum variance orthogonal rotation are utilized to observe each factor’s high loads and classification. Generally, if KMO is greater than or equal to 0.7 and the load coefficient of each item is greater than 0.5, the combination of factors between items of the same variable will be realized (Rivero-Antunez et al 2020 ).…”

“…The Raman features from PVA nor PVDF are not observed, which is consistent with the literature, because in graphitic materials, the Raman process is resonant and so its signal is much more intense than the nonresonant signal from PVA and PVDF. [31,33,34] These findings clearly indicate that the structure of the FLG flakes is conserved in the final nanocomposite. [35][36][37] 3.2.…”

“…Previously, the influence of multilayer carbon nanotubes [10][11][12][13][14][15] and surfactants [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] on the operational and drying properties of brick loams has already been studied, and positive results of such a modification have been obtained. The goal of further improving the operational characteristics of ceramics, in particular, increasing its strength properties, was decided by the choice of modifiers from the composition of nanosized ones.…”
