Mechanical behaviour of strain aged dual phase steels

Abstract: Dual phase steels, characterised by good formability and excellent surface finish, are suitable for applications where processing involves cold deformation. In this context an investigation has been conducted into the cold deformation aging susceptibility of carbon steel API-5L -B and microalloyed steel API-5L -X52, both with dual phase microstructures. Changes in mechanical properties such as phase microhardness, ultimate tensile strength, and yield strength in both types of steel were observed at aging tempe… Show more

“…This steel possesses smooth stress-strain curves with continuous yielding, low proof to tensile strength ratio, high work hardening rate and high uniform and total elongation. Static [6,7] and dynamic [2] strain aging behavior have also been reported. During low temperature bake hardening processes, both static strain aging behavior of the ferrite and tempering of the martensite have been observed.…”

“…more attention from scientists and steel industries, particularly for the strain-based design applications. [4][5][6][7][8] Compared with welded pipe, seamless pipe has been increasingly applied for oil transportation in severe environment, for example the marine environment, due to the homogeneity of mechanical property without welded joints. At present, increasing demand for strain aging design of seamless pipe has been needed for steel industries.…”

“…At present, increasing demand for strain aging design of seamless pipe has been needed for steel industries. However, such strain aging behavior has been extensively investigated in welded pipes, [3][4][5]9,10) but rarely in seamless pipes. To date, only very few investigations have been performed on the effect of various microstructures on the strain aging behavior of pipe so far.…”

“…Dual phase steels are considered as an advanced high strength steels with a tailored composite microstructure consisting of hard martensite islands embedded in soft ferrite matrix [4][5][6][7][8]. DP steels was discovered during the 1970s energy crisis.…”
