“…Compared to unmodified lignin, the high degree of freedom and reactivity of the side chain in lignin–based epoxy acrylate (LBEA) would allow the aliphatic and phenolic ‐OH groups to well participate in the formation of hydrogen bonds and dipole‐dipole interactions with cellulose (Figure S1b, Supporting Information). [ 27 ] Figure S1c (Supporting Information) compares the FTIR spectra of acetone–soluble lignin (ASL) and the corresponding LBEA. The disappearance of the broard peak centered at ≈3403 cm −1 and the sharp peak at ≈1088 cm −1 indicated the consumption of hydroxyl groups during the reaction.…”

“…In an approach to use CNFs as both macrophotoinitiator and reinforcement simultaneously, Wu et al proposed a novel strategy to graft CNFs with TDI and photoinitiator 2959 (i.e., MCNFI) which was then grafted onto a photosensitive prepolymer urushiol epoxy acrylate oligomer (UEA) to prepare UV-cured MCNFI@UEA coating. 309 MCNFI@UEA composite coatings. At a loading level of 8 wt% of MCNFI, superior mechanical and anti-corrosive properties of the composite coating were attained that can be accredited to multiple factors such as physical barrier, low water absorption, high adhesion, and passivation effect.…”

“…CM-CNF is highly dispersed under a water-based matrix because of the electrostatic repulsion among the negative ions on the cellulose while forming an excellent barrier coating/ film. In another study, Wu et al 67 synthesized urushiol epoxy acrylate by using an in situ ring-opening reaction with epoxy resin and then esterification with methacrylate anhydride (Figure 12c). In the coating, the modification of the cellulose nanofiber (MCNFI) acts as a bridge connecting urushiol epoxy acrylate molecules, resulting in an increase in the cross-linking density and a decrease in the micropores.…”
