Mechanical and Acoustic Properties of Jute Fiber-Reinforced Polypropylene Composites

Abstract: Chemical fibers such as glass fiber and aramid cover a large proportion of sound-absorbing composite materials on the current commercial market. These materials possess superior mechanical properties but have the disadvantages of high production costs and energy consumption and difficult recovery and degradation. In this paper, jute fiber and polypropylene were selected as raw materials, and a series of jute fiber-reinforced polypropylene composite materials were prepared by a mixing-hot-pressing process. The … Show more

“…This superiority can be attributed to the twisting and overlapping of the ends of the fibers with different lengths, resulting in the formation of numerous interconnected pores inside the surface layer (Figures 7G and 8A). 39 The stacking of different acoustic materials into a laminate structure can provide more possibilities compared with a single‐layer structure. However, the stacking order in the laminate structure resulted in different composite material surfaces, leading to distinct acoustic absorption properties on the front and back surfaces 40 .…”

“…Shen et al investigated the jute fiber-reinforced PP composite to determined mechanical and acoustic properties. The mechanical properties improved by up to 50% of the fiber content of jute afterwards decreased [ 46 ]. On the other hand, the best acoustic insolation performance is found in the 50% fiber content.…”

“…Few works have been reported on the acoustics properties of natural fiber/filler‐reinforced composites. Among them, the acoustic properties of coffee silver skin‐reinforced natural fiber composites were examined by Abdi et al 10 Shen et al 11 investigated the influence of fiber residue ratio on the sound absorption coefficient (SAC) of jute/polypropylene (PP) composites. Further, they extended their research to develop micro‐perforated sound absorbers using jute fibers 12 .…”
