Measuring university students’ technostress in technology-enhanced learning: Scale development and validation

Abstract: With technology-enhanced learning playing an increasingly important role in higher education, university students are enjoying unprecedented benefits while likely experiencing technostress due to increased requirements and different academic expectations of technology-enhanced learning. This study aimed to develop a psychometric scale to measure university students’ levels of technostress in technology-enhanced learning. An initial technostress scale was developed drawing on the person-environment fit theory a… Show more

“…However, in the three referenced research cases, the sample sizes are narrower (441, 267, and 537 cases reviewed) and, at the same time, they do not correspond to a study with a sample at the national level. Objectives of other technostress studies, published in 2020, with relative samples including 1462 cases [12] and 1744 cases [13], focused on the techno stressors of higher education students.…”

“…To measure technostress, the instrument was first validated, using a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), which is used in previous studies of technostress [12,13,[33][34][35][36]. In this case, the Lavaan package [37] of the RStudio statistical software (RStudio Team, Boston, MA, USA) has been used.…”

“…As for students, no negative effects of technology caused by technostress on students when using mobile devices have been shown [57]. On the other hand, previous findings revealed a negative impact of ICT methods that require active participation by students [58]. This negative effect is significantly reduced if teachers have a high level of digital competence [58].…”
