Measuring the funding landscape of COVID-19 research

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of the study is to map the funding status of COVID-19 research. The various aspects, such as funding ratio, geographical distribution of funded articles, journals publishing funded research and institutions that sponsor the COVID-19 research are studied. To visualize the country collaboration network and research trends/hotspots in the field of COVID-19 funded research, keyword analysis is also performed. The open-access (OA) status of the funded research on COVID-19 is also discussed.Design… Show more

“…As we expect, many research fundings are invested, and research opportunities have been created due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shueb et al (2022) mapped the funding status of COVID-19 research using data retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) and presented their finding. On the other hand, Loan and Shah (2022) used quantitative and visualization approaches to map coronavirus research from 1989 to 2020.…”

“…Hence, the doubling time was increased from 4.2 in the first decade to 17.3 in the last decade. Shueb et al. (2021) investigated the funding ratio, geographical distribution of funded research projects, journals that published funded research studies and institutions sponsoring COVID-19 studies.…”

“…We identify 14 research topics for COVID-19. Although there is several studies literature analysis on COVID-19, such as (Shueb et al, 2021) and (Zhu and Lei, 2021), none of them focused on content analysis using topic modeling. This automated literature analysis can help specialists in the health and medical domain or other people to quickly grasp the structured morphology of the current studies for COVID-19.…”
