This work aims to analyse the role played by relevant sustainability factors towards the implementation of maintenance interventions in the manufacturing industrial sector. In this context, we focus on industrial water distribution systems, on whose effective work depends the functioning of core plants as well as general industrial facilities. In detail, we propose a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) application based on the use of the Analytic Network Process (ANP) as a methodological way to prioritise maintenance interventions while considering the influence of some of the most relevant sustainability factors identified in literature. The main advantage of such an approach consists in the elaboration of a flexible maintenance procedure for companies based on a well-known and reliable multi-criteria application. The novelty of our work refers to the development of a structured link between sustainability factors and maintenance management of industrial water distribution systems, something that is fundamental in manufacturing but also in other fields of application.

An Investigation of Sustainable Maintenance Performance Indicators: Identification, Expert Validation and Portfolio of Future Research

The full integration of sustainability considerations into maintenance practices requires a close monitoring of maintenance impact through appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) that take into account various sustainability aspects. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive framework of KPIs covering all the sustainability dimensions, and the few attempts to address this need are specific to certain industries and lack validation by experts in the field. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop and validate a comprehensive and multidimensional framework of sustainability performance indicators for the assessment of maintenance impacts on the triple-bottom-line. To that end, an exhaustive list of general indicators is collected based on both international organizations standard-sets and published literature. Subsequently, this list is projected on the maintenance area to establish the pertinent indicators. Then, a validation phase is performed with a highly qualified expert panel through semi-structured questionnaires and follow-up discussions. The validated list of sustainable maintenance KPIs includes 63 indicators amongst which 34 belong to the environmental pillar and are split between various categories such as resource use, residuals, environmental compliance, etc. The social pillar comprises of 15 indicators related to occupational health and safety, training and development and customer satisfaction dimensions. Finally, the economic pillar includes 14 indicators split between economic performance and investment categories. The findings of this research provide guidance to practitioners in the field and set the foundations for conducting promising future works. A rich portfolio of future research based on the obtained results is proposed.

Saat ini, perusahaan manufaktur telah mempertimbangkan sustainability sebagai masalah krusial. Hal ini disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor, diantaranya adalah kelangkaan sumber daya yang tidak terbarukan; regulasi yang semakin ketat terkait lingkungan, kesehatan, dan keselamatan; meningkatnya permintaan pelanggan untuk produk ramah lingkungan; dan lain sebagainya. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adalah sasaran pembangunan berkelanjutan yang menjadi salah satu kata kunci penting yang mendasari kerangka pembangunan di seluruh dunia saat ini. Bermula dari kesadaran bahwa bumi dan sumber daya alam yang terdapat masa kini bukan semata milik generasi saat ini akan tetapi perlu dilestarikan dalam rangka memastikan kebutuhan sekarang tanpa mengorbankan pemenuhan kebutuhan pembangunan untuk generasi masa depan. Target utama SDGs adalah mengentaskan kemiskinan, tapi di Indonesia akan menggunakan tiga indikator terkait dengan dokumen SDGs yakni pembangunan manusia atau human development yang meliputi pendidikan dan kesehatan. Lingkungan dalam skala kecil atau social economic development dan lingkungan yang besar atau environmental development berupa ketersediaan kualitas lingkungan dan sumber daya alam yang baik. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, maka seluruh komponen masyarakat perlu memahami kontribusi apa yang dapat diberikan. Maka pelaksanaan program pendidikan dan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada seluruh anggota Polyface Nambo sebagai masyarakat industri mengenai konsep sustainability dan memberikan motivasi mengenai apa yang dapat mereka lakukan dalam pencapaian SDGs yang sudah ditetapkan khususnya SDG no 12 yaitu penggunaan sumber daya manufaktur berkelanjutan.
