Measuring quantum coherence in multislit interference

Abstract: A quantitative measure of quantum coherence was recently introduced, in the context of quantum information theory. This measure has also been propounded as a good quantifier of the wave nature of quantum objects. However, actually measuring coherence in an experiment is still considered a challenge. A procedure for measuring coherence in a multi-slit interference is proposed here. It can be used for experimentally testing duality relations for interference experiments involving more than two slits.

“…However, one might still ask how this coherence C is connected to interference. This question has been the subject of some recent investigations [39,40]. To address this question we again consider a quanton going through n paths.…”

“…In addition, one may wonder if the position, at which the intensities are measured, makes a difference to the visibility. All these issues have been addressed in a more detailed analysis [40]. For two-slit interference we can compare V C with V. For n = 2, the new visibilty is given by…”

“…One of the remaining problems is to measure C (k) c as the path distinguishability in the experimental interference pattern, as C l1 in [30]. We also guess the other members of the coherence family have accurate relations with some quantities in multi-slit interference.…”

“…As an example problem, we exploit the generalized coherence concurrence to understand wave-particle duality in the context of multi-slit interference experiments. It turns out that the concurrence family can capture the path distinguishability more accurately than l 1 -norm monotone used in [29,30]. This paper is organized as follows.…”

“…The determination of l 1 norm quantum coherence by means of the central maximum of the interference pattern in Eq.
