Financial performance is a complex indicator that has represented and represents a priority, an assurance of profitable economic results, and also a hard to reach indicator. Given the importance and necessity of measuring the financial performance both for the internal and external environment of the economic entity, the main purpose of this article is to present concepts regarding the financial performance: typology, importance, indicators that measure the performance. The paper also aimed to highlight the importance of knowing and measuring performance, based on an empirical study conducted on a sample of five companies in the pharmaceutical field (companies whose object of activity is the retail trade of pharmaceuticals, in specialized stores-CAEN 4773) for which profitability indicators were analysed for a period of fifteen years (2004-2018). The five companies were chosen on the basis of turnover, representing the five best performing companies in the field of trade in pharmaceuticals. The research results show that financial performance is the goal of an economic and social game whose main actors are economic entities, also it is a measure of profit, growth, productivity, value creation, being a complex indicator that confirms the profitability of the business, and performance evaluation involves meeting the requirements of stakeholders. In addition to obtain profit, an entity must focus on sustainable development business, on a capitalization of factors of production, obtaining the best and optimal results in relation to the resources consumed.

This paper comments on the IASB/FASB project on financial statement presentation. It suggests that the basic approach of cohesiveness between statements is worthwhile and the split between operating, financing and investing is useful to investors. However it proposes different valuation and presentation approaches for different activities, and underlines the importance of earnings for forecasting comprehensive income. It suggests a conceptual approach to defining earnings and explores ways of avoiding recycling while identifying fair value changes for some assets and liabilities.

Je možné bez nadsázky konstatovat, že potřeba měřit výkonnost je stejně stará jako potřeba cílevědomě ovládat, řídit lidskou činnost. Rozvoj ekonomického prostředí a s ním spojený rozvoj přístupů a metod řízení výkonnosti organizovaných ekonomických činností se odráží i ve vývoji všech složek systémů měření výkonnosti, a to včetně té nejviditelnější části celého procesu měření, kterými jsou měřítka výkonnosti a metody jejich měření.V této konzultaci se pokusíme zmapovat, které tendence se objevily na výsluní zájmu měření výkonnosti během uplynulých zhruba padesáti let, a provést jejich konfrontaci s cílem odpovědět na otázky, co bylo či je příčinou jejich popularity, co vlastně přinesla do tématu "jak měřit výkonnost" nového a jaké aktuální vývojové tendence je z jejich progrese možné odvodit pro snažení nové generace architektů i alchymistů výkonnosti. Přes zjednodušení, zejména abstrahováním od paralelity rozvoje odlišných koncepčních přístupů v různých teritoriích a odvětvích ekonomiky, bude pro metodologickou uchopitelnost dynamika vývoje měření výkonnosti rozlišena do třech základních období -(a) situace v období po 2. světové válce, tj. v 50. a 60. letech 20. století, (b) situace v 70. a 80. letech 20. století a (c) situace od začátku 90. let 20. století do počátku nového tisíci-letí. Primární pozornost bude v článku věnována podnikatelsky orientovaným činnostem a organizacím.Popis a hodnocení vývoje měření výkonnosti první dekády 21. století není předmě-tem zájmu této konzultace. Dosavadní poznatky o tomto velmi blízkém období neukazují na vznik a rozvoj přístupů, které by byly svoji koncepcí oproti již existujícím přístupům unikátní. Pokračování vývoje koncepcí vzniklých v uplynulých dekádách se paralelně ubírá v řadě variantních proudů. Pro malý časový odstup nelze poskytnout jejich ucelený popis a hodnocení jejich významnosti v dlouhodobější vývojové řadě nemůže být opřeno o dostatek empiricky ověřitelných informací.V jednotlivých vývojových fázích budou "novinky" v oblasti měření výkonnosti posuzovány ze třech hledisek, které se ukazují pro pochopení tendencí vývoje jako klíčové:1. Vliv změn v pojetí cílů organizace na výkonnost a na úlohu měření výkonnosti. 2. Úroveň diversifi kace informačních potřeb různých uživatelů informací o výkon-nosti a její vliv na proces měření výkonnosti. 3. Vztah měření výkonnosti na úrovni organizace jako celku a ve vnitřních strukturách organizace.
