Measuring energy security performance within China: Toward an inter-provincial prospective

Abstract: ABSTRACT:China has been the world's largest energy consumer and producer for many years, yet while myriad studies have investigated Chinese performance on energy metrics compared to other countries, few to none have looked internally at Chinese provinces. This paper firstly develops a five-dimensional evaluation system centered on the energy security dimensions of availability and diversity, affordability and equality, technology and efficiency, environmental sustainability, and governance and innovation. It t… Show more

“…Vinodh et al [29] used a hybrid multicriteria decision-making approach for agile concept selection with fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory, and fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution. Zhang et al [30] adopted a complete ranking model for multicriteria decision-making problems with multigraded dominance relations.…”

“…Wang et al (2014) study the extent of a convergence process of CO2 emissions within China and Xu and Lin (2015) show that there is an inverted U-shape relationship between industrialization and CO2 emissions in the three regions in China. Zhang et al (2017) evaluates energy security at the provincial level and shows that all of them face threats related to energy availability and diversity. Very few studies have attempted to account for emissions from trade, with the exception of Mi et al (2016).…”

“…In fact, these five dimensions were also validated by a series of researches on energy security. For instance, the results of some workshop discussions [34], literature reviews [35], surveys of public attitudes [36], and qualitative or quantitative researches on energy security measurement [37][38][39][40] also support the framework of these five dimensions. Table 1.…”
