The objective of the study is to present the underlying conditions of the functioning of outsourcing at various levels of company operations. In addition, it shows a detailed analysis of the purposes of outsourcing, the scope of outsourced services and outsourcing selection criteria. What is more, it includes an assessment of the level of company satisfaction with outsourcing performance and the risks involved. The research materials comprise data regard-ing 140 manufacturers and service providers located in Eastern Poland which have outsourced some of their activities. The survey performed allowed the researchers to evaluate the scope of use of outsourcing services in company operations. The descriptive, comparative and graphic methods were all applied to analyse the re-sults of the study. The statistical analysis and the calculation of the correlation coefficient were employed to assess the level of dependence of company size on the scope of use of out-sourcing services. The conducted analyses show that the main objective of outsourcing use appears to be the focus on core competencies and the reduction of operating costs (75.7% and 60.7%, respectively). The most frequently indicated areas outsourced by the companies are the organization of supply, distribution, transport services and renovation-repair services. More than a half of the analysed enterprises pointed at the above listed areas. The factors of major importance when selecting outsourcing services providers are experience, market recognition, price, quality, and the application of the principles of sustainable development. The last element was crucial, above all, in the case of companies employing over 250 people. PurposeAdvances in information technology coupled with the need to build resilience against disruptions by pandemics like COVID-19 continue to emphasize offshoring services in the software industry. Service-level agreements (SLAs) have served as a key mechanism for safeguarding against risk in offshore service arrangements. Yet, variations in service cost and quality persist. This study aims to open up the blackbox linking SLAs to offshore project outcomes by examining (1) how the provisions in these contracts affect the ability of project teams – the work unit primarily in charge of producing the offshored service – to achieve their objectives and fulfill client requirements and (2) how differences in contextual factors shape the effects of these provisions.Design/methodology/approachThe authors incorporate the role of organizational work practice differences to understand the challenges that 270 offshore project teams faced in coordinating and integrating technical and business domain knowledge across organizational boundaries in offshore arrangements. The examined offshore IT projects were managed by a leading software vendor in India and several of its US-based clients over a three-year period.FindingsThe authors demonstrate that organizational work practice differences represent a barrier to offshore project success, and that project team transition processes are an important mechanism for overcoming these barriers. Moreover, the authors find that transition processes represent key mediating mechanisms through which SLA provisions affect offshore project outcomes.Originality/valueThe study findings shed light on how SLAs shape software project teams' balance between activities aimed at meeting client needs and those aimed at containing costs.

Background: As a dimension of data quality in electronic health records (EHR), data completeness plays an important role in improving quality of care. Although many studies of data management focus on constructing the factors that influence data quality for the purpose of quality improvement, the constructs that are developed for interpreting factors influencing data completeness in the EHR context have received limited attention. Methods: Based on related studies, we constructed the factors influencing EHR data completeness in a conceptual model. We then examined the proposed model by surveying clinical practitioners in China. Results: Our results show that the data quality management literature can serve as a starting point to derive a conceptual model of factors influencing data completeness in the EHR context. This study also demonstrates that “resources” should be added as a factor that influences data completeness in EHR. Conclusion: Our resulting conceptual model shows a substantial explanation of data completeness in EHR assessed in this study. Although the proposed relationships between the included factors were previously supported in the literature, our work provides the beginning empirical evidence that some relationships may not be always significantly supported. The possible explanation of these differences has been discussed in the present research. This study thus benefits decision makers and EHR program managers in implementing EHR as well as EHR vendors in the EHR integration by addressing data completeness issues.
