Measuring Active and Healthy Ageing: Applying a generic interdisciplinary assessment model incorporating ICF

Abstract: When comparing BeCS-14 and LeCS-84, the aging process seemed to be accelerated in women in LeCS-84 between 45 and 54 years of age. We can only speculate on the reasons, such as differences in the health care, political and social system. However, the differences observed support the use of our BFS/BFA assessment tool not only on an individual level (strengths/resources) but also population level following EIP-AHA requirements. Yet, it remains to be developed how the assessed health strengths/resources-profile … Show more

“…We recently fitted our complex generic BFS/BFA assessment tool into a theoretical model incorporating both, the ICF and AHA concept, resulting in a complex AHA assessment diagnostic tool [8] meeting the EIP-AHA requirements for a diagnostic AHA instrument [9]. Chronic stress is known to be one major contributor to develop NCD.…”

“…Of our complex BFS/BFA assessment tool [8], seven subjective BFS items significantly correlated with chronic stress exposure assessed by TICS-SSCS: (1) sense of coherence, (2) physical and (3) emotional wellbeing ((4) combined items), (5) social resonance, (6) social potency and (7) social dominance. The BFS item sense of coherence (SOC_L9) had the strongest correlation with TICS-SSCS.…”

“…Of the many proposed measurement tools, that at least in theory, assess health and wellbeing in older persons, most focus on disease and disability, which are only partial component of the multifaceted readouts of healthy aging [25]. The problem with these tools is that they can easily distinguish the least healthy but not the healthiest individuals in the population [26]. This is because diseases and disabilities only become manifest when compensatory strategies are exhausted.…”
