Measurements of γ-rays and neutrons in BNCT irradiation field using thermoluminescent phosphor

Abstract: Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is an innovative cancer therapy that selectively destroys only cancer cells by utilizing the reaction between boron agents, which selectively accumulate in cancer cells, and neutron beams. However, the irradiation field of BNCT is a mixture of multiple radiation types, making accurate dose evaluation difficult. For dose evaluation in cancer tissues, which is particularly important, it is essential to discriminate neutrons and γ-rays mixed in the BNCT irradiation field and t… Show more

“…Most ionizing radiation detectors are solid-state detectors, and they are mainly divided into two groups such as semiconductor detectors (Si, 1) Ge, 2) CdTe, 3) and TlBr 4) ) and luminescence-based detectors. Luminescence-based detectors are also classified into two types, including scintillation detectors 5) and dosimeters with storage phosphors by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), 6) thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL), 7) and radiophotoluminescence (RPL) 8) phenomena. Among them, scintillation detectors consist of scintillators and photodetectors, and they are used in many application fields, for instance, medical imaging, 9) security, 10) environmental monitoring, 11) optogenetics, 12) well-logging, 13) astrophysics, 14) and high energy physics.…”
