Measurements of the meson-photon transition form factors of light pseudoscalar mesons at large momentum transfer

Abstract: Using the CLEO II detector, we have measured the differential cross sections for exclusive two-photon production of light pseudoscalar mesons 0 , , and Ј. From our measurements we have obtained the form factors associated with the electromagnetic transitions ␥*␥→meson. We have measured these form factors in the momentum transfer ranges from 1.5 to 9, 20, and 30 GeV 2 for 0 , , and Ј, respectively, and have made comparisons to various theoretical predictions. ͓S0556-2821͑98͒01001-7͔

“…Radiative logarithmic corrections to the pion distribution amplitude (PDA) can be easily implemented through the QCD evolution equations [2,3], which yield for Q 2 → ∞ the asymptotic wave function of the form * Electronic address: earriola@ugr.es † Electronic address: Wojciech.Broniowski@ifj.edu.pl ϕ π (x, ∞) = 6x(1 − x). Moreover, the pion transition form factor has been measured by the CELLO [4] and, recently, the CLEO collaborations [5]. A theoretical analysis of PDA based on these data and light-cone sum rules has been undertaken [6], showing that at Q = 2.4 GeV PDA is neither asymptotic, nor possesses the doublehump structure [7] proposed in early works [8] [49].…”

“…we show the normalized π → γ * γ TFF F πγ (Q 2 )/F πγ (0) for both timelike (q 2 = −Q 2 > 0) and spacelike (q 2 = −Q 2 < 0) momentum transfer region and compare our results with the available experimental data [2,3,33,34] in the spacelike Q 2 (> 0) region. The solid, dotted, and dashed lines represent our predictions of total…”

“…Note that we have omitted for simplicity variables irrelevant for our discussion (see [3] and [4] for more details). Several experimental groups have measured Q 2 F γ * γπ 0 (Q 2 , q 2 → 0) and Q 2 F γ * γη(η ′ ) (Q 2 , q 2 → 0) in two-photon processes e + e − → e + e − γ * γ → e + e − X, where X = π 0 [5][6][7], η and η ′ [6,8].…”
