Measurements of inclusiveWandZcross sections in p\overline{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1\hbox{.}96\, {{\rm TeV}}

Abstract: We report the first measurements of inclusive W and Z boson cross sections times the corresponding leptonic branching ratios for pp collisions at √ s = 1.96 TeV based on the decays of the W and Z bosons into electrons and muons. The data were recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab 4Tevatron and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72.0 ± 4.3 pb −1 . We test e-µ lepton universality in W decays by measuring the ratio of the W → µν to W → eν cross sections and determine a value of 0.991 ± 0.004(st… Show more

“…In the CDF II detector [10], a particle's direction is characterized by the azimuthal angle and the pseudorapidity ¼ À ln½tanð =2Þ , where is the polar angle measured from the proton beam direction. The transverse energy E T is defined as E sin , where E is the energy in the calorimeter towers associated with a cluster of energy deposition.…”

“…The uncertainty from the energy scale introduces an uncertainty on the measured cross section that varies between ≈3% and ≈8% as E γ T increases. Finally, there is an additional 6% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity [45].…”

“…Details on the CDF II detector and the event reconstruction are described elsewhere [10]. The detector is cylindrically symmetric around the z direction, which is oriented along the proton beam axis.…”
